Présentation de l'éditeur
But You Look So Good - Stories from Carcinoid Cancer Survivors and the basics of Neuroendocrine cancers.
This book shares the intimate stories of those living with a poorly understood neuroendocrine cancer and the time it takes to find a correct diagnosis; sometimes years! The book demonstrates how those afflicted with this cancer cope with the myriad symptoms of this “great masquerader” cancer.
Supported by loved ones, the valiant struggles to obtain a correct diagnosis and effective treatments will give the reader a dramatic first-hand look into how our healthcare system often fails to serve each of us, regardless of illness.
More importantly, the stories show the reader how those with this cancer cope. The book also offers information on the various types of this cancer, tests, markers, and scans relevant to NE cancer, as well as tips on how to manage symptoms, side effects of medications, complimentary alternative medicine, quality of life issues, nutrition, and coping. It offers hope, strength, and inspiration to those with this cancer, as well as to their care-givers and all involved with them.

For a patient and their loved ones to keep current with medical science, especially in regards to a rare disease, is not easy. Also not easy: Building a medical team that is both open to acquiring new knowledge as well as being compassionate in the face of their own ignorance with regard to neuroendocrine cancer, the disease to which Steve Jobs succumbed.
While this book has a 70-page primer that gives the patient an overview of many current approaches to diagnosing, treating and monitoring a cancer that is a master of disguise in its disturbing symptoms, it also offers more valuable gifts: resources to empower the reader to explore further, keep current, and above all, to feel less isolated by presenting moving stories of those generous enough to share their experience of living with this "cancer-in-slow-motion." Their struggles, hope and strength are real treasures for men and women living with this cancer.
In the face of an over-extended, over-specialized medical bureaucracy, the book also offers medical providers with valuable insights into what works and what needs changing with respect to frustrating patient presentations, a disease that demands the utmost in up-to-date approaches, and a paramount need to use the team approach. The professional reader can comprehend that, if ever a disease demanded setting ego aside and embracing a collaborative approach, NE cancer is the poster child for that disease!
While I'm too close to this book to judge whether it's is a "page-turner", I can speak with the confidence of a RN living with someone with this cancer: This volume will prove to be of immense worth, to newly diagnosed patients, to those who have lived with NE cancer for some time, and to their caregivers, both lay and professional. The reader will see how lives have been lost due to medical ignorance coupled with arrogance. Hopefully this book will go a long way to remedying such lapses in the delivery of effective care and be a useful tool to living with NE cancer and its many challenging symptoms.

This book is well thought out. The author has packed a large amount of medical information in the front part of the book. Information I wish had been on-line when I was first diagnosed with Carcinoid/NETs in 1995.Par Susan L. Anderson
The second part of the book contains stories from Carcinoid/NET survivors, or as I like to say winner. These stories show how very differet we are except for having Carcinoid Cancer. Each person has to decide which doctors to have on their team; and how to handle the emotional side of cancer, not just the physical side. These are inspiring stories and I recommend this book.
